I enjoy running. I have experience and claim to know what I’m doing some of the time. So, how come stupidity overcomes all and I forget to warm up and stretch properly. Why does it matter not a jot on some days and on others I really come a cropper?!
Saturday’s run was fluid and strong – could have done twice the distance but decided to quit whilst I was ahead. Sunday’s run..on the other hand…awful! Within 15 minutes I had what I think was cramp ..and not in the usual foot/leg but in …ahem.. my derriere! Clearly not enough of a warm up and although I’d done some glute strengtheners, I’d either done them too quickly or not enough. Compounding the discomfort, I continued to run until 40 minutes later I realised what an idiot I’d been.
A very restless night ensued – the use of ibuprofen and hot & cold packs didn’t initially make me feel any better and certainly did nothing for my ego!
So here are my first lessons on my Marathon journey – take time to warm up, do the silly looking stretches and if you get an injury ..for goodness sake stop!
For those interested, my behind is feeling sore but a lot better … my friends at the Physio clinic will, no doubt, say “I told you so”!
And just for frivolity: I love running to this; made famous by the Renault Megane Advert & FatBoy Slim (Groove Armada)
