I have been bowled over by some lovely messages of support recently and been delighted to reconnect with old friends…
Kerry Wil
son (nee MacKenzie) and I have known each other since we were 11 years old. We went to to Notre Dame Convent School in Cobham, Surrey and occasionally meet at the odd reunion, so it was wonderful to get an email from her recently. Kerry clearly thinks I’m off my rocker doing the London Marathon, and who can blame her
but she has come up with a way to help. She’s holding a Frock Sale and Coffee Morning at her home, on November 18th, to help with my fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Thank you Kerry, you’re an absolute star – I hope to get down to be at the event, it sounds like it’s going to be great fun!!
Kerry & I spent far too long on the phone the other night reminiscing and laughing!…and remembering – Two other girls we went to school with were Annabel and Tania. They were two of the prettiest, cleverest girls whom everyone liked and were full of life and opinions. We kept in touch, we met up, we emailed, we gossiped. And then… Annabel was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and Tania with Breast Cancer. Both girls fought their illnesses with huge bravery and humour. Their respective treatments and surgeries were arduous and, to be honest, I don’t know how they coped. They knew what lay ahead and both had parents and families that would, and tried to, do everything they could to help.
It was desperate to hear that first Annabel had died and then Tania. We still remember them as healthy, vibrant, forward looking schoolfriends who went on to become successful and dynamic women. Their respective Funerals and Memorial services were hard to attend but both Churches were overflowing with people who came out of respect and love…there were so many people that there was standing room only..a real testament to the character of these women who died far too early.
Annabel and Tania both died in their thirties…. I’m running the London Marathon to help people like Annabel and Tania and their families and their children .. Please, please donate whatever you can ..Together we can make a difference. Thank you. x
