The day after I had to pull out of the Kilomathon, due to injury, my race number arrived in the post. Isn’t that always the way!
Anyway, I thought I’d show you it – if nothing else, it proves this long distance running lark isn’t just a figment of my imagination!
The thing that looks like a white plastic bottle top, on the left hand side, is a clever gizmo that you attach to your running shoe. It activates the moment you step across the start line and records an accurate race time the second you cross the finish line. The Kilomathon organisers will be offering ‘finishers’ an accurate record of their race time, a finishers medal and both video and photos of every runner crossing the finish line.
I’ve heard that the Kilomathon is being filmed for Sky Sports 4 and will be shown on March 24th at 6pm – it will be great to see this inaugural event and I have deferred my place for next years Kilomathon.
In the meantime, good luck to everyone taking part in the world’s first Kilomathon!
