Good luck from Charlie Chaplin – London Marathon Guinness World Record Holder
Last year, Sergeant Major Gordon ‘Charlie’ Chaplin successfully completed the London Marathon in full army gear while carrying a backpack weighing 40lbs. Charlie broke the Guinness World Record by finishing the marathon in under 5 1/2hours.
Charlie ran for Macmillan to say thank you for the support his family received following his wife’s diagnosis with ovarian cancer.
“Macmillan were fantastic. They’ve given us vital emotional support, talking to my wife, our two children and myself, to help us all through it. To be honest, without Macmillan I think we would have struggled. Because of the nature of my job I’m not always at home, so they were another shoulder to lean on.”
Charlie’s words of encouragement for Sunday: ‘Keep going, it may seem like a long time and distance, but it’s worth it in the end! Good luck for Sunday!‘
