My Charity

wearemacmillanI am running the Virgin London Marathon, on 25th April 2010, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.  This page is about what Macmillan do and why I support them:

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. Cancer affects us all. We can all help.

Macmillan’s primary goal is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.

They are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It’s not only patients who live with cancer, so they also help carers, families & communities.  They guide people through the system, supporting them every step of the way.  Macmillan also fund Nurses and other specialist health care professionals as well as building cancer care centres.  There is always much more to give than just medical help though.

People need practical support at home, so Macmillan provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support, so they listen, advise and share information though their cancer support specialists|, website and trained professionals. People often need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so Macmillan gives benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs.

Macmillan Cancer Support is there when you’ve just been told you have cancer and they never leave you…
